Webcambooth (webcambooth.com) is a free, browser-based photo booth tool built and maintained by Zhentao Wen, an independent designer and developer. There is no company behind this site — it is a personal side project.

Webcambooth is designed to collect as little data as possible. Here is a complete breakdown:

• Photos and video: Your camera feed is processed entirely in your browser using JavaScript. No images, video frames, or camera data are ever transmitted to any server.
• Photo strips: Strips you create are saved to your browser's localStorage only. They exist solely on your device and are deleted when you clear your browser data.
• Leaderboard nickname: If you choose to join the public leaderboard, your chosen nickname and a randomly generated anonymous token are stored. No email, name, or account is required.
• Analytics: We use Google Analytics (GA4) to collect anonymous usage data — page views, country, browser type, and session duration. No personally identifiable information is collected.
• No cookies of our own: Webcambooth does not set any first-party cookies beyond what Google Analytics requires.

Webcambooth requests access to your device's camera in order to function. This access is handled entirely by your browser's built-in permission system (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, Safari).

• Your camera feed is processed locally in your browser only.
• No video or images from your camera are ever sent to our servers or any third party.
• You can revoke camera access at any time from your browser settings.
• Declining camera access will prevent the photo booth from functioning, but you can still browse the site.

Your photo strips are stored in your browser's localStorage — a private storage area on your own device that no one else can access, including us.

• Data stored in localStorage never leaves your device.
• You can view, download, or delete your strips at any time from within Webcambooth.
• Clearing your browser's site data or cache will permanently delete your strips.
• Storage is limited by your browser (typically 5–10 MB). If full, you will be prompted to delete older strips.

The optional public leaderboard lets you compete with other users by total strips taken. Participation is entirely voluntary.

• To join, you choose a nickname (any name you like — it does not need to be your real name).
• A randomly generated anonymous token is created and stored in your browser's localStorage to identify your entry. This token contains no personal information.
• Your nickname and strip count are publicly visible on the leaderboard.
• You can rename or remove your entry at any time from the leaderboard page.

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how people use Webcambooth. This helps us improve the site. Google Analytics collects:

• Pages visited and time spent on each page
• Approximate country and city (based on IP address, not stored by us)
• Browser type and device type
• Referral source (how you found the site)

Google Analytics does not collect your name, email, or any personally identifiable information. You can opt out of Google Analytics across all sites by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Webcambooth is hosted on GitHub Pages and served via Cloudflare. These services may log standard server-side data such as IP addresses and request headers as part of normal infrastructure operation. Please refer to their own privacy policies for details:

Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts. Google may log font request data. See Google's privacy policy for details.

Because we store almost no personal data, most data rights requests are handled directly by you within your own browser. However, you have the following rights:

• Access: Your photo strips are viewable at any time within Webcambooth.
• Deletion: Delete any or all strips directly from the booth interface. Clear your browser's site data to remove all local data.
• Leaderboard removal: You can remove your leaderboard entry at any time from the leaderboard page.
• Analytics opt-out: Use the Google Analytics opt-out add-on or a privacy-focused browser/extension.

If you are a resident of the EU/EEA (GDPR), California (CCPA), or another jurisdiction with specific data rights, and you believe we hold data about you that you cannot access or delete yourself, please contact us at hello@zhentaowen.com.

Webcambooth is a general-audience tool and is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through Webcambooth, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of Webcambooth after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
